Original Inscript was standardized in 1986 and revised by the Department of Electronics (DOE) in 1988 and again by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in 1992. It became the official government-recommended layout for typing Indian scripts.
Enhanced Inscript is more recent update, published in 2016 as IS 16350:2016, it accommodates the additions in the Unicode standard, such as new characters, and includes a more efficient layout with three layers to make it more ergonomic and include the Rupee symbol.
