Before you start, make sure you are learning the right layout. TypingMaster 12 is built for Hindi InScript – the standard Hindi keyboard that comes with Windows and types Unicode Hindi (Mangal font).

Remington is the old typewriter-style Hindi layout still asked for in some state and railway typing tests.
Kruti Dev (e.g. Kruti Dev 010) is a legacy non-Unicode font typed with a Remington-style layout. TypingMaster does not support Kruti Dev typing.

InScript looks hard at first, but it follows simple rules. Learn these and the keyboard starts to make sense.

All vowel signs (ा ि ी ु ू े ै ो ौ) are on the left side of the keyboard; most consonants are on the right. Exceptions: म, न, व (C, V, B) are typed with the left hand. Most Hindi syllables use one key from each hand.
Shift turns a consonant into its aspirated pair – क→ख, ग→घ, त→थ, द→ध, च→छ, ज→झ, ट→ठ, ड→ढ, प→फ, ब→भ – and a vowel sign into the full vowel: ि→इ, ु→उ, े→ए, ो→ओ, ा→आ. A few Shift keys hold other letters instead (e.g. स→श, म→ण, ह→ङ).
Type a consonant, then D (halant ्), then the next consonant: क + ् + य = क्य, स + ् + त = स्त. रेफ (the र् mark shown above the next letter, as in पर्यावरण or कर्म): type र + ् + the consonant – र + ् + य = र्य, र + ् + म = र्म.
Common conjuncts are on the number row with Shift: Shift+5 ज्ञ, Shift+6 त्र, Shift+7 क्ष, Shift+8 श्र. Anusvara ं is X, chandrabindu ँ is Shift+X.
Chart shows the Hindi letters of both Windows InScript keyboards, Hindi Traditional and Devanagari – INSCRIPT; the conjunct shortcuts (Shift+5 to Shift+8) are also the same in both. Devanagari – INSCRIPT has a few extra characters not used in Hindi (e.g. on Z, V, B). The on-screen keyboard in TypingMaster always shows your active layout.

Choose the Hindi InScript course and start from the home row. Keep Hindi selected as your keyboard while the TypingMaster window is active.
Open Typing Test → Add, paste a Hindi passage and set the rules of your exam:
Copy a passage, open TypingMaster → Typing Test → Add, paste it and set your time and WPM limit. The second passage contains many conjuncts (संयुक्त अक्षर) like exam texts. Get more texts from the test library.

Most typing tests count net speed or allow only a limited number of errors. Set an accuracy limit in your TypingMaster test and raise the WPM target only when you pass it consistently.
Practise with Hindi passages similar to your exam. For a 10-minute test at 30 WPM, use a passage of at least 300–350 words and paste it into a new TypingMaster test.
Typing well for 2 minutes is not the same as 10 minutes. Once you reach your target speed, practise full-length tests so your accuracy holds until the end.

Many people search for a Hindi typing test online. TypingMaster 12 is different: it is a Windows program. You download it once, use the real Hindi keyboard of your PC, keep your progress and practise even without internet.
Mangal (and Nirmala UI) are Unicode Hindi fonts. When you type with the InScript keyboard you produce Unicode Hindi, so “Mangal typing” and “InScript typing” usually mean the same skill.
Kruti Dev is an older, non-Unicode font typed with a Remington-style layout. Text typed in Kruti Dev only displays correctly with that font. TypingMaster does not teach Kruti Dev – it teaches InScript, which produces Mangal / Unicode Hindi.
Remington support is limited: there is no dedicated Remington course, but you can practise a Remington (GAIL) keyboard with the Universal Course and your own typing tests.
A chart helps at the start, but the goal is to stop looking at it. Use the InScript chart above to learn the rules, then rely on the on-screen keyboard in the lessons.
It depends on your starting point and how much you practise. Short daily sessions – for example 20–30 minutes – with a focus on accuracy give the most reliable progress.

Both are InScript keyboards included in Windows and both work with the Hindi course. If your exam or office uses one of them, choose that. Not sure? Use the Hindi Layout Detector.
It depends on the exam. InScript produces Unicode Hindi (Mangal font). For example, the RRB NTPC CEN 05/2024 notice asks Hindi typists to be familiar with Krutidev or Mangal. Always follow your official notification.
SSC CHSL (LDC/JSA): 30 WPM Hindi in 10 minutes. RRB NTPC: 25 WPM Hindi in 10 minutes. Set the same time and WPM limit in a TypingMaster test so you know when you are ready.
Switch your keyboard to Hindi InScript (Win + Space), then in Typing Test click Add and paste a Hindi passage. Set the time and pass limits and double-click the test to start.
Windows can remember a different keyboard per app window. Click inside TypingMaster and press Win + Space to choose Hindi. In Settings → Time & language → Typing → Advanced keyboard settings you can control whether Windows uses a different input method for each app.

No – Hindi Phonetic keyboards and Google Input Tools are not supported. They turn English spelling into Hindi words (namaste → नमस्ते), which is easy for casual typing but is not a touch-typing layout, and it is generally not what government typing tests use – check your notification.
